If you happen to be in Ghent (Belgium) you must visit the St Bavo Cathedral. The old cathedral accomodates in a heavily guarded corner the famous Altar piece The Lamb of God (1432) made by the brothers van Eyck. For centuries many parts of the altar piece roamed through Europe separately. After World War in 1920 the Treaty of Versailles brought all panels together in Ghent again. Standing in front of the large altarpiece you get overwhelmed by the bright colours, the details and the serene atmosphere it radiates. The altarpiece is a coproduction of the brothers Hubert and Jan van Eyck. The crammed accommodation of the altarpiece does not give justice to its greatness and religious purity. So it is good there are plans to give the masterpiece of the brothers van Eyck the space and light it deserves.
