It is winter in the Netherlands. The country is covered with a thick layer of snow. So much snow that the roads had difficulties to digest the traffic. The railways were even worse. Up in the northern part of the country local trains were unable to ride. It made me think of the Dutch painter Rein Pol who lives in that part of the Netherlands and has a fascination with trains. In the 1980's he made many paintings of a particular train, the socalled Blue Angel, which was in fact a red diesel train used on the regional lines in the north of the Netherlands. He painted the train in all seasons and his paintings give a good impression of the wide northern landscape they are riding through. But his winter paintings are the best. Pol's work is classed among the works of the" Northern figuratives"
